Dawn of Happiness Founded in the 13th century
The word Sukhothai in Pali language means 'Dawn of Happiness'. In 1238, King Intradit created a federation of neighboring kingdoms under one banner and founded the brilliant culture named after the city state.
Sukhothai, the ancient capital of this Thai Kingdom and now designated a world heritage site, occupies a special place in Thai heart as to most Thais, Sukhothai is a historical landmark representing the ascendancy of the Thai people and their culture. Sukhothai's magnificent sculptures and architectural structure occupy a unique place in the annals of art history and fills one with a sense of awe at the grandeur of its creators.
Its royal festivals, religious ceremonies, consecration of Buddhist monasteries and wealth of architectural styles represent an era where all round excellence was a hallmark.
A Living Museum of Thai Cuisine Along historic Boat Quay stands a Thai restaurant with a 700 year old inspiration.
At Sukhothai Restaurant our respect for the arts and crafts and cuisine of Thailand's first capital runs deep.
Here, we attempt to recreate a gastronomical experience reminiscent of that era's creative genius, which is acknowledged by historians as the zenith of Thai artistic endeavor. The Restaurant, which is situated at 47 Boat Quay, has very elegant old Thai charm. It is decorated with magnificent art pieces which enhance its elegance and true Thai ambience.
The restaurant has 2 floors of fine indoor dining and alfresco dining by the river. From the 2nd floor, the magnificent view of Empress Place and the Singapore River is a fine juxtaposition with the authentic traditional decor.
Apart from the decor, whose authenticity speaks for itself, the food is untypical of other Thai restaurant in Singapore. We invite you to dine at Sukhothai to truly share our appreciation of Thai cuisine.
